update. Needed more rivets, more 4200 and some plumbing parts but i'm still just one of those hairs under, with the agreed upon tools and spare / future use motor not applying.

ok, i've purchased all i needed for the rehab so final numbers are in however i have decided to continue tracking all boat future expenses, minus fuel and beer. Never tracked that but will help in budgeting for my (our) upcoming retirement.

added a category of 'improvement' for all continuing upgrades to help me age on this boat.


End of the rebuild, im less than $400 over budget (13.9%) which is i'm sure a record for me.

update, i've added an 'improvement' and 'safety' section. I think I will also try to backtrack a bit and add what I've spent in general and i'm going to keep this updated going forward. Never have tracked on this closely.

Thru my many years of boat ownership, I have never saw a boat owner with a budget....one that works anyway....a BOAT is just a hole in the water in which we pour money to keep it going...

They actually now have classes that teach folks how to adjust their statistics to get the outcome they want ! That is a job in demand right now!

That's when I knew I had found my calling when after six month of our small company with me leading the digging in of numbers I finally got the client to admit their data was wrong. They told us to manage to it anyway. From then on my job was to call bullsh.t on the numbers and even when we sold out little company that was my job, but back to the field reported numbers. Nothing like a grunt from the field to know how the field managers trick f,d the numbers to make up lies.

That probably also why I was a RIF a few years ago. YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH. Don't like the real numbers, fire the person that gives real numbers.....

Far out I dont even keep receipts , I mean its bad enough with her just thinking what she knows about such frivolous spending , a man would be crazy to bring concrete evidence into the house

As an Engineer in charge of product development and process improvement, I always had to do the calculations to validate my projects. I was given a budget and had to stay within the lines. Over and I got no raise that year. A lot under and they had to shortchange my coworkers so they could pay me extra.

In 2005 I bought an antique fixereupper. I tracked every single expenditure, as well as hours worked. (I did not add labor to the cost; I just thought it was neat to do.)

At the end my totals were about 5 grand. A professional appraisal indicated the boat was worth about 10 grand. Four boat shows later and with 2 first place trophies and a "best in show" I figured it was worth more than the appraisal.

Now, 20 years later I see similar boats selling for 5 grand. The bottom has fallen out of the antique boat market. Boats advertise for more, but they don't sell.

Moral of the story is that times change.

ok so here's an update. I've added in original cost at purchase as well as approx travel to go grab it - shot low because i kinda considered that road trip with my brother as a vacation

I've not added in the trolling motor or batteries yet, need to look up how much I paid for them

I will never add fuel, food or beer cost. That is a general life expense.

liquid project enhancer is never added to the project unless you use it as a gauge of time...... as in that is a 2-beer project or a 6-beer project.

Still don't think I would add to budget, it's just a useful guage like any decent project manager would use. Use avail kown data to accurately forecast the input time. The beers will be consumed regardless and by not including in the budget if that specific cost is overrun, we'll, know one will know because we didnt report it.

Off to the lake on this beautiful Monday. Most time spent will be moving the roller sections to properly center everything.

Guess that is why I stick with older, nice boats and motors, easier to beat the high cost.
