I have a 1956 Evinrude 15 HP. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to pressure check gas tank? It is the old style with a thumb primer on it.

Hello Ksufan
You should be able to presureize the tank with the button on the top. Just pump it up and pour a little soapy water over the screws and handle area. Most leeks occur at the cap gasket, fuel line connecter o-rings.
If your having problems with your tank, its probably time for a complete over haul, of tank, hose and connecter.

My fuel tank is leaking out of the bottom. I emptied fuel except for little bit in bottom of tank. Cleaned outside of tank and set in garage. Next day had a puddle under tank. Any way to seal the tank??

Hello ksufan
There probably is a way. The question is, is it wroth doing? I would say probably not. By the way was your tank under presure while sitting on the floor? If your sure it's leeking out the bottom and not running down the side. You have two choices, find another tank or convert to a pump system. Probably cheeper to find another tank and over haul it. Save all the good stuff off yours for parts. These older tanks are starting to get a little harder to find. A rebuilt tank w\hose and connector go for between $80. and up in my area.

hello there is sealer that you can put in the tank to seal it up.cant think of the name of the stuff.i have a freind who restores old motorcycles he takes his tanks to a radiator repair shop here in richmond.they dip it in a acid tank ,let it dry and then put in the sealer.it works great .but it cost about 65.00.your tank could be leaking around the seamed crimp at the bottom.take a close look at it .im no pro but maybe this will help
