1975 Johnson 85hp fuse prob

Hello <br />I have a problem with my outboard, after it runs for a while the fuse blows out and have to be replaced, 20- 40a. Short somewhere?<br /><br />Help will be much appreciated.<br /><br /><br /> :confused:

Start gong threw your wires. Service your batteries; you may have a bus barS that bring all the grounds to one spot and all the hot leads to another. Tighten screws, use WD-40 and sandpaper. Disconnect your batteries and clean up your electrical. It is a wonderful learning opportunity. I would guess that you have bad connection somewhere.<br />Think about what you are doing when the fuse blows.<br /> Persistency and consistency shall prevail.

sounds like a bare wire to ground somewhere. <br /><br />>turn everything off<br />>remove fuse<br />>take an old headlight and some jumper wires and wire in the headlight where the fuse was.(let the headlight be your fuse)<br />>now start wiggling harnesses until headlight activates. when it activates, you know you've agitated the problem area....<br /><br />good luck! :)
