Hi,

I'm doing a favour for a friend and after some informtion on a pulse pack for a 1969-1970 Johnson outboard (115hp).

We need a diagram for the inside of the pulse pack. There's no spark coming from ours and we need a good diagram of the internals to work out what's what...

If anyone can help with a diagram or can point me in the direction of a website that can help, I'd *really* appreciate it.

Thanks heaps

Vanessa
vanessa_dillon@hotmail.com

G'Day, Vanessa.

I don't believe that the unit is seviceable. My manual does not provide any info on what is inside, and the unit is potted.

Good luck.

I think schematic had a couple of posts about fixing powerpacks not that long ago, he went into some detail..

My OMC 72 100hp powerpack was full of green resin, but schematic said that most times its bad solder joints, so if you can get the resin off the back of it.. (very hard, but possible.) you might be able to fix it..

My might be a candatite for the car coil conversion if you can't justify spending the money on a new powerpack (I just replaced mine, it cost 350 dollars AUD, (half that for USD)

car coil conversion is fairly straight forward to do... (and you are lucky, your model has points, mine doesn't..)

rgds

Frank

Hardtime... No criticism intended, just thought you might want to know about the difference between the eariler and later p/packs. The powerpack on the older engines (1968/1972) are a completely different animal from the 1973 and up models. 1968/72 are "Battery Capacitance Discharge" packs and are dependent on 12v battery voltage. 1973 and up packs are "Magneto Capacitance Discharge" packs whose voltage is derived from a stator under the flywheel which delivers roughly 300 "AC" voltage.
