I need advise - I have a 1990 70hp VRO Evinrude. The problem I have is that the engine starts great, works at lower speeds great. But when you throttle at 3/4 or more and run for more than 15 seconds (est) the motor will idle down by itself as if you were to throttle down to 1/4.Only you havent really throttled down. The motor does not die just goes back to a strong idle and then will automatically start to rev back to full throttle and again after a few seconds will throttle back down. Remmember at this point I have not throttled down at all, but the engine acts as if I were. I have squezzed the ball while this was occurring and as long as I kept squezzing the ball the motor would run relatively smooth.

Howdy Hunter.

Sounds like fuel starvation to me. Check your fuel tank vent, fuel pickup, fuel lines, filter and fuel pump. You might need to overhaul the pump.

Good luck. :)
