Hi all,
Here are the symptoms I'm having with my Evinrude 70Hp (1984)
1) Set idle speed on the water (as per manual), however, when flushing on land, idle speed is huge.
2)top carb spits a very small (only just visible) amount of fuel back out whilst idling.
3) If idling for a short period, engine dies at 1/4 throttle when you go again, or if you hold it before it dies for a few seconds and then open it quickly, it will behave well all the way up to fully open.

Seems to go really well mid and top range, just these things !?!
thanks in advance,
Mitch

Once it idles for a few seconds, try firming up the primer ball before accelerating. If this improves it, then look to the fuel supply (hoses, couplings, venting, fuel filter, fuel pumps etc. If squeezing the ball makes no difference, its probably time to clean the carbs..... :)
