Can anyone help me on this. I bought this engine at yard sale -- hasn't been run for 3 years. Seller said to run pull the plug and run some oil through it before cranking it up all the way. Sound like a good idea?

Hey, Bo1.

If spraying some WD-40 in the spark plug holes is "running some oil through it" I agree. Turn it through slowly by hand to make sure everything is free before you reinstall the spark plugs.

It probably should have a new water pump impeller before you try to run it.

Fresh, 87 octane unleaded, alcohol free gas. TC-W3 rated outboard oil. 50:1 ratio (1 pint oil/6gal gas or 4oz. per gallon).

Give her a try and let us know what you get. :)

A can of spray "Engine Tune" at first might help before you go out an run it WOT....Would definitely be a good idea, frees stickey rings and removes carbon and lubes engine. Watch for plugged carbs and lean runs...could fry it before ya know it. As a matter of fact if was MY engine I would dissassemble the carb(s) and check for varnish..... :D
