I have a 1988 225 Evinrude. The boat runs fine when it over 1 or 2 knots. When I go any lower or in neutral it will cough, and stall, then gas begins to come out of the cowling. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Sounds like at least one misadjusted or stuck float.

Have you pulled the bonnet to see where the fuel is coming from?

Good luck. :)

JB,
Im not too mechanically inclined. Other than just taking off the 12 or so bolts, Once that comes off is there anything else that has to be taken off once it is open?

Thanks

Sorry. I wasn't clear. I meant the engine cover.

Are you interested in fixing this yourself, or do you just want to be able to evaluate a wrench's input? :)
