Evinrude outboard

I have an older Evinrude motor on my boat. Last year we had no water in the lake and the boat was not used or started during that time. I have not been able to get it started this year. I have replaced the spark plugs, gasoline and battery. It turns over but will not start. I'm not sure of the year.It is a 55 horse motor. Any help would be appreciated to avoid going to the shop. Judy

The place to start is checking for spark then for fuel (or vice versa if that suites you). Plenty of info on how to do that if you try the Search function.

I don't know how to access the search function and have no idea how to check for a spark. I replaced the fuel bulb line and know that gas is going to the motor.

Thank you for the help however I wasn't able to find anything in my search. I called the boat repair place yesterday and they are 3 weeks out. It looks as though I'm not going to be able to use my boat again this year if I can't get any help starting it.

Hi, Judy.<br /><br />It is really unusual for a female to not read the directions. Look at the top of the page. <br /><br />There have been at least 50 different 55 hp engines sold over the years.<br /><br />You need to:<br />1. Get a manual<br />2. Tell us more about your engine and what you have done to try to isolate your problem.<br /><br />Good luck.

I won't get into the gender thing, but can add that if you use the Search function and type in "won't start", you will get several useful previous threads to read.<br /><br />Now, the most likely problem is gas gummed up somewhere and fuel not getting through to the cylinders. If you spray some fuel (with oil) into the cylinders and reinstall the spark plugs, and try to start it - will the engine fire and try to run. If so, you likely have a gummed up carb or other fuel problem. If you remove a spark plug and hold it against the engine while trying to start it, does the plug produce a spark? <br /><br />These and many more suggestions are out here on this site. Good Luck!
