The motor for my power tilt and trim sounds like it is working but the engine won't go up and down. The engine is stuck in the 3/4 up position; the pistons won't move up or down. I took the boat out of storage and started to lower the engine but it stopped after a few seconds. Where do I start?

You may able to answer your questions by doing a search at the top of the page. I would start with the fluid. Is it low?

Dutch

Dutch,

Thanks for the feedback. I did the search but wasn't sure which of the postings applied to my problem. The best I can tell is that it is probably a hydraulic fluid issue. There are some postings that reference the reservoir and hydraulic fluid but I'm not sure what it looks like; nothing is clearly identified. What am I looking for and on what part of the engine?

Thanks!

First things first. Before anyone can help you we need the year, who made it,hp,etc. Some t/t's are different in appearance. One major thing you
MUST do (unless you want to run to the shop and wait) is get a manual for your motor. THAT will save you a lot of grief and money. The more knowledge you have about your investment the better off you'll be.

Dutch

Dutch,

I bought the boat second hand but it looks like the tilt and trim is original with the engine. The engine is a 90 HP Evinrude (1981) Model E90MLCIM and the serial number is J0002248. Looks like I'll have to pick up a manual.

Thanks for your help.
