 My motors seems to trim (down) itself all on its own while sitting by itself, no-one near it, and no-one having used it for 5 days. I think it must be a short. Do you have any suggestions on where to look. The controls are on the gear lever, to under the dash, then on the motor (red up and down arrows). This motor is on a Pontoon Boat.

It may be leaking off. You need to determine if it is actually going into trim by itself or if it is a slow leak off.

Trim the motor up and somehow mark where it is then disconnect all batteries for a day or 2. If it bleeds down then you know its a leak instead of electrical.

It seems to me it would be electrical as it emitted the same noise it does when you use the tilt. Our marina manager disconected our battery and the noise quit. This has happened to us twice in the past two weeks. The first time it wore our battery completely down.

Some pontoons run the wiring under the floor. It may be rubbing against something. I would check all the wires and connections and the trim switch.

Take the small wire off the the down solenoid coil. If the problem stops it is either the Trim switch or the wires going to it. If not it is the solenoid.
