power tilt(any ideas)

i have power tilt on my 1974 70hp johnson<br />it starting to give me some trouble.when you first use it it will go down but not up if you play with it for a while by clicking the switch up then down for a while it will start to move up slowly. there is two cylinders on here one points up the other points down.any ideas how to fix or what could be wrong

Is the pump running? Have you checked the fluid level?<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

its sounds like it is running,and i will check the level tomorrow. there is a screw and a round<br />knob which one to i check the level at

I agree with hooty it sounds like a low fluid problem. The motor probably only goes down without a problem because of the weight of the motor.

how do you check and fill<br />there is a big screw on the top and a knob on the bottom halve.do you check and fill from the top screw?

Leafs,<br /> The top screw should be removed and fill with fluid until it runs out of the hole. I use a squirt oil can to fill mine, a nice new one used only for this purpose. The engine has to be in the full tilt up position if possible.
