I have a sea king 5 hourse power and would love to get it running. I was told when I received the motor several years ago I was told that it had been rebuilt recently but that was a long time ago. I would love to know what company(Evinrude, Johnson,???) purchased the Sea King company or where I might take this machine to be worked on.

Sarge

Re: Sea King five

Do you have any Model numbers or serial numbers that you can find on it. That would help us find out who makes it and more!

Sarge, form what I have seen at least two different companies built Sea Kings. One was Gale (OMC, the other was Chrysler. I do nto know if there are others or not.

The very first engines made by Mercury were SeaKings for Montgomery Wards. They converted Thors and then went to the Mercury line. This was about 1940. 2.8hp single @ 3500rpms x 27lbs. Serial number were ridiculously low, mine is
#1804 and model K-1 (which IDs this as a Merc built engine).

After the Thor conversons were sold, Merc went big time and you know the rest.
