trustje97467
first welcome to the board. this could be one of many problems. you need to give more details about your engine, year model serial, more info = more and better replies! was your tank vent open, was the primer bulb hard, can you use the primer bulb to overcome the problem. sounds like a fuel delivery problem, dirty carbs, bad fuel pump, stoped up fuel filter etc.
Richard

Also , first thing is to make sure you have spark to both Cylinders. Then go from there! Spark, Fuel and Air. In that order! Check spark by holding plug wire(With insulated Pliers) about 1/2"-3/4" away from block. Turn engine over and it should jump to the block in a strong blue spark. Let us Know!

Hi Trustjb,
Do what Ricjdb1boat says,as always he has usually got his head on right. The only other comment that I would make is if you are going to check spark, do a compression test first if that dosn't check out all other test are moot. I personally whenever I get a motor in for servicing I always run the following test in this order 1.do a compression test; if the readings arn't with-in 15# of each other then you have problems that must be addressed before anything else can be done. 2.Check for spark on all cylinders; if these two test are good the problem has to be fuel related,or timming. Oh yea I almost forgot the first thing, do a good visual inspection. I have found out if I left out one of these steps it could lead to me chasing my tail for some time until I finally went back and preformed one or the other of the steps that I left out.
But from reading your post I would put my money on dirty carbs. especially the intermediat jets located just in front and to the top of the throttle plates.
Only my 2 cents worth

My money is on the carbs.

I had similar problem after rebuild.

Somehow I had a blockage and wrong jets at the same time - long story - even longer post.

At one stage if I moved throttle from idle to WOT, no problem, however if I stopped in mid range it spluttered.

I am not saying you have a jet size problem but you will have something in there, probably dirt giving the same symptom.

If it is performing at high revs unlikely that it is an electrical problem.

NG
