I just bought an Evinrude Fleetwin #4443-28683 at an antique shop and would like to know the age and horse power. I am thinking of using it on my canoe. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks Mike

Re: Evinrude Fleetwin what HP? and age

Hi Mike,
I've got a '51 myself. Nice running, though a bit buzzy (might just be mine). It has a neutral clutch (knob coming out top of gas tank), and the motor spins around 180 for reverse. The neutral clutch spring would wear with time to the point where they would simply have direct drive and no neutral. I have a fix for that, e-mail me if you need it. Water pump impellers are no longer available, but you can make one out of an impeller that is available. Again, get ahold of me if you need the procedure. Magneto parts are readily available at any Evinrude Dealer, NAPA, West Marine etc. I can get you part numbers if you need them.
Hope you have a big canoe - 7.5hp is a fair amount of power for a narrow canoe...
- Scott

Scott,
I'm going back a long way with your quoted email below. I'm a different guy who recently acquired a '51-'52 Fleetwin. Looks complete, but not run yet. Hasn't run in decades.
I know I need new coils. But, as you mentioned in your post below, you have a "fix" for the clutch spring and water pump impeller. May I bother you for those fix details. Much appreciated and all the best.

Thanks. Charlie (Eastern Maine)
