Hello amigos. My 150hp motor, does not go foward and the reverse rattles when I shift. It like the gears do not engage properly. Foward was working fine util last Fri. when at the lake, avoiding other boats, I reversed and open the throttle less than half for less than a min., when I tried to go foward, it didn't go anywhere. What did I do? What happened? How much will it cost me? Answers will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

With IGNITION OFF !!!! Try to force at propeller when motor in forward. Maybe its only the propeller hub spun badly.

If it slips in l/u gear or splines in driveshaft you should be able to hear where.

I recommen you REMOVE all 4 sparkplugwires from plugs before you try, if motor starts, you will be hurt badly.

Another hint:

Try to look under hood if the motor shift lever moves when you get someone to engage in Fwd/rev on controller. You could have broken something on controller/cables.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply G DANE, I will try these tests. But, one thing I don't understend, is about the hub might have spun. Do I, like hit it to force it? I don't know what l/u gear is. Sorry I'm not knowledgeable about motors at all. I checked the arm that shifts the gears, and they do move the lever. It does locked when is in R , but not on Foward.

To check the prop (Ignition turned off) put the motor in gear. Try to turn the prop by hand. If the prop is spun the prop will turn but the prop shaft will remain stationary. In other words if you can turn the prop by hand and the nut that holds the prop on doesn't turn then the prop is spun.
If both prop and prop shaft turn, take G Dane's suggestion and check the shift levers. That rattle trying to go to reverse does sound like the gears aren't fully engaging.
If the props spun then a trip to the ole prop shop is in order to have a new bushing pressed in.

Good luck :)

Hi again Latinoheat

If the shift arm does not engage all the way into forward - i guess the error is there. Something must have happened to your controller or cables. Try to check and adjust the cables and see if this doesnt make it shift all the way into foreward.
