Hi GENTS

I had my boat out for the second time yesterday, only myself & mate were onboard,we both sat on seats in middle of boat, its a 15ft half cab with a 40hp johnson.it seemed to be very high at front and motor very low in the water, even looks as though it pumped water slower out of pee hole when motor was low in water is this normal?also i was told i could trim motor in the next hole setting from where it is set now and this would help to keep the boat down at front and up a bit more at the back,is this true.im new to boating and would appreciate any help given, btw i was on estuary protected waters at the time.THANX

EDDY

Re: Motor seems low

EddyC, when boat is on plane the cavitation plate on motor should be near or slightly below water surface. When running if bow seems to be high , if you don't have tilt trim unit , lower motor to next pin hole on transom bracket and test again. This will trim angle down and lower bow while running.

Re: Motor seems low

eddyC, If motor is trimmed to lowest hole that's the best your going to do with motor trim correcting ride. You'll have to distribute some weight forward in your boat. Also, as I mentioned , insure motor is mounted at proper height on transom. If your boats transom angle will not allow for lowest trim position to correct ride you can obtain a transom adapter that will afford more trim control.

Get a fin for the motor. They tend to help a great deal, and are very inexpensive.

What is the max HP for the boat shown on the little yellow tag on the boat? Sounds to me like you have too much weight on the transom. :(

Re: Motor seems low

Start with the basics - what is the top rpm? If you are running on one cylinder and "plowing" that would explain a lot.

Lets make sure the motor isnt sick before we go in another direction.

Good luck!

agree with Mumblerone here,
did you take on any water that would weigh you
down in the bilge area? maybe you can move some
heavy items to the bow to even her out...
good luck,
M.Y.

When you pull the spark plugs out do they both look the same?
