I have the factory manual and Clymer's for...

1985 14’ McKeeCraft
E60TLCRE, 1984 60HP Evinrude

I can't find either of the subject items.

What are they, and where would I look them up?

Hummm,
The factory manual should have it in there.
It should be in the 'Specifications' section and they call it "propeller gear ratio". My '76 V6 Evinrude is 14:26.

c/6

Hooty

Thanks, Hooty, I found Volume 1, with specs. It calls for 5000-6000 as a WOT range. Sort of wide. It also specifies 5600 as the test wheel RPM.

I can assume 5500 is around the right place, then.

I couldn't find the gear ratio, though. I am looking to calculate slip. (see previous post)

Jim , I still have the original motor manual for the 1983 60hp evinrude I once owned and it states that the gear ratio is 12:29.This would equate to a 2.42 : 1 ratio.Full throttle operating range is as you stated from 5000 to 6000.I had my rig propped to run at the upper end of that nearer to 6000.

I looked all over for it, but couldn't find that ratio! What section is it in, Hooty?

I'll log it and write it in the specs part. It's amazing what I'll forget next.

5500 sounds like it's screaming. I think I'll leave there until I get more water tests; I just raised it one hole (one more to go). I may go back and beat out the extra cup.

On the recent water tests I noticed the best speed/RPM on a full plane had the engine cocked more than a bit up. Could that be a clue the setup needs to be raised?

The other thing I noticed was a thin line between top speed and porpoising. It almost bounced me out of the boat!

Merry Christmas!

You want the engine up the transom as far as it will go without the prop ventilating. The more engine out of the water, the less drag. You can trying trimming up one more notch but ya may have to drop it back down because of the porpoising. The more you trim the engine up, the more bow you bring out of the water.

c/6

Hooty

Re: What's my gear ratio and WOT?

I probably said that wrong.

My 'up' is raising the engine vertically, not the manual trim. I have one or two holes left and haven't run it since I raised it one hole.

I have an aftermatket CMC tilt and, as I took the data on the previous post , I trimmed for optimum speed and RPMs.

Merry Christmas (finished assemblying all the daughter's toys on only one bottle of Disaronno!)!
