no power on the go lots of power when the motor is cold but as soon as it warms up it wont rev it has very hard time achieving plane. it a 60 hp 1988 evinrude. has excellent comp motor was rebuilt less than 40 hours on the motor. but even before motor was rebuilt it ran like that . replaced all three carb, all three coil, ignition box .gas filter .vro, reed valve, also it seems to help a little bit on acceleration when you push in the choke to give it a short burst of fuel. but thats not enough when its warm . But it starts easy and on the earmuff with no load it accelerates and runs fine. Its starts great it also seems to dribble a bit of fuel out of tne carb airhorn but the float setting are fine . I suspect a bloked exhaust or a bad stator? but it starts and runs fine but no get go ? not like when i first aquired the boat? Is this possible? It seems sometimes when the motor is hot that it would spit fuel out of the carb while it runs. Is there like a pickup coil on this motor if there is where would it be located ?would this also cause my woes? but checke timing on idle as well as high speed and it seems to be good . need help seriosly ????????????????????/+

[/LIST]

Re: basseye

Welcome to iboats. The problem you must first address is the fuel spilling fropm the carb overflow. The float needle in this carb is not shutting off the fuel as it should, iether due to a sunk float, stuck float, needle, or spring, misadjustement of float level.
Once the carbs are straitened out,I'll bet ya a boatride you'll be back in the saddle. But if not, post again.
Post again regardless, just to let us know what you've found.
One other thing..When removing and replacing carbs, allways use a new flange gasket (I make my own,but they sell them out-of-kit in most cases).
But I've experianced the problem many times, thinking the gasket still "looks good", only to have to take it off, clean the flange surfaces, nd put a new one on.I had a baby Merc that tought me that lesson the hard way.

Re: basseye

I read you, but they are not right. Carbs should never leak, unless the float adjustment is off,or the engine is trimed-up, off-level. If the motor is level,or and you have gas leaking from the overflow, it aint right, and can cause the symptoms you described.
How is the fuel pump? If you can pump the primer ball, and get it to run better, check for air leaks, blocked filter, or defective fuel pump.
But those carbs should never leak on level trim.

Re: basseye

Leaky reeds can make a good carb spit fuel. They will also cause a power loss.

How a 2 stroke seems to run without a load is usually a lie. Those OMC loopers are notorious for "running smooth" on one cylinder.

Get out of the parts swapping mode and find out what is really wrong. Then buy parts.

Good luck. :)

Re: basseye

OK help...listen to 12footer....

Just because the carbs are new don't mean they are right. If the reeeds are new, chances are they are not centered on the reed plates. This will cause fuel to spit out the carbs. Just a little off and the motor will run like crap. Any motor will start easy on muffs. No back pressure on the cylinders. Back it in the water on the trailer and see how she starts. If all else fails, take some carb/choke cleaner and dribble some along he seams where the crankcase halves come together and around the reed cage cover. If the engine speeds up, you got an air leak.

Keep us updated.

OBJim
