Hey guys,
I took off the prop from my 15 hp Evinrude 86' model to clean off the fishing line and could see a 2 in aluminum plate with holes lodged between the bearing carrier and housing. It's too big to retrieve without removing the carrier. It's a small square plate full of holes, with two of the holes in the corners being slotted. Does anybody know what that plate is or where it belongs. I''m going to get it out but wanted to know if you guys could help id it.
Thanks a bunch, Knobby

Re: 15 hp evinrude lower unit

I went to the boat store and nobody there can find aything associated with the unit either. The mech also asked about practical jokers, It's too big to come out without removing the bearing carrier. I'll get it out one of these days, and was told that it can't get to anything that might cause problems and I could leave it in there, yeah right... thanks for the help.
knobby

Drop the lower unit and you will see where it fits up in the upper housing aft. must have fell down exhaust when putting unit on. The holes in it should be toward the power head, it goes in vertical there is grooves in the casting to hols it.

I agree with Miklh. Drop L/U, retreeve and replace. No need to pull bearing carrier.
