I'm seeing mixed info in the forum as to what parts should be replaced. Can the masses here recomend what the cranks should look like and what bearings on crank and rods should be replaced? A good place to order parts? The engine melted piston 4 in the center. Probable cause? As to make sure it's taken care of during overhaul. Thanks to all. Dirk

if you dont have a parts manual i would get one along with an omc manual. for the time being try this site www.boaterssupply.com , click on your brand of motor, than year & than hp/model- that should give you a good idea on current prices along with a parts diagram. great site. this site also has suppliers too. hope that helps

Like 2K BOAT sez, get the Evinrude Service Manual. It will guide you as to what parts should be replaced and what parts are still serviceable.

c/6

Hooty

You have'nt given us a model # ,so we don't know if this is a looper or a crossflow. They made both in this vintage you know.If it is the looper that cylinder specific carb would be a good place to start looking as to cause of failure.Carb rebuilds should be part of any rebuild project,as well as a water pump job.Internals will need to be measured and inspected carefully, then compared to spec. Many bearings that you reuse will need to be reassembled with the same orientation as they came out.Tedious, but you are putting a great deal of love and dedication back into your machine. Will it work? How much love ,and how much dedication?
