95 evinrude 25 hp. Carb is clean, new plugs, new gas, bulb and hose. Starts easily, runs great at
1/4 to wot. Get strong spark at plugs, pulled one plug at a time, no "serious" difference. Plug inspection
shows wet plug on top and dry sooty one on bottom. Will do compression check tonite. The hic sounds
like there is no fire during that cycle. but is continuous rrrrhicrrrrhicrrrrhic. is allowed to idle down, the
hic causes engine toi die. Easy to restart tho.

Let me know

Walt..... The usual cause of that probelem is: if that carb has a adjustable slow speed jet, it's set slightly lean. If no adjustable jet, the carb is still slightly fouled.

One other cause would be that you have the throttle butterfly opening slightly too soon in relation to the timing.

i agree with joe i've seen many motors with the same symptom of the "hiccups" or "sneezing" and tuneing the carb is the solution

Thanks for the replies. Houston traffic and central standard time postponed the comp check. will cert get it done tonite. The idle adjust screw is in the tiller handle and it turns without apparently changing the needle. will chck tonite also

walt

Compression in both cylinders is a perfect 120. The new plugs, less than 30 min run time, one is slightly damp, but clean(top) and the other is black and sooty. Switched plugs and removed after a few minutes, same results. top wet, bottom dry and sooty. Still hiccing.

Hi Walt L

Try to unscrew your fuel pump from block and replace the two screws on pump. Squese primer bulb firmly. If fuel drips out of vacuum hole on back of pump, you have a leaky diaphrame, feeding fuel to top cylinder. Rebuild. Error can also be loose screws on intake cover carb is mounted on, feeding lower cylinder with air through airleak. Usually plugs ARE damp when iddling, and as you have only one carb, the lower must get air from some leak, instead of proper micture. Reason symptom dissapears at higher RPM is that leak cant feed more air
