I've got a '62 E'rude that just developed a power loss at full throttle. She's OK at slow speed but only gets to half power when throttle is applied. New Plugs didn't help. Problem just developed when I tipped her up to put a transducer on my transom. When I put her back down, the problem occurred.

Great little motor! Runs fine at slow speeds!

Anyone got any ideas? ...The Stripers are coming and I need her!
<'///////>< CeraHone

I'd guess a carb cleaning/rebuild is in order. Possible that when you tipped her up, the float may have stuck due to gum/varnish buildup.
Backlash

CeraHone, you are going to have to check a few basic things first. Fuel-is all the carbs flowing fuel OK. Timing-is Max spark advance set right. Compression-are all cylinders within 10% of each other. Once completed, you should find some problem area to work on..........It is hard to guess without any data.....I wonder if you could dropping a coil. Goodluck....BushCat

This may be stating the obvious but if the problem truly occurred right after you tipped the engine check all the possibilities associated with that such as the stuck float already mentioned or maybe something more mundane like a pinched fuel hose, loose fitting, vent or something. It seems suspicious that it occurred right after the tilt.

Hi Cerahone...look at the gasket between the carbuerator float bowl and manin body. If it is black, by all means pull the carb and put a new kit in it. The original and some after market kits still have the black rubber gaskets which are not alcohol resistant. The OEM kit gaskets are made from Vitron. The color is a reddish, more or less, and are much more resistant to the new gas blends. My guess would be if ya' ain't had a carb rebuild for a while ya probably got some crap in floatin' around in the float bowl.
