Evinrude 1976 stuck gears

This is my 1st time on this site. I have a 1976 115 v4 evinrude which has been great up till 4 weeks ago. The gear is stuck in reverse and i managed to get it in neutral once. As soon as i placed it back in gear it stayed there and now wont get out. I've taken the lower unit off and have tried to get it out of gear with the shift linkage with no luck. Any ideas would be great.<br />Also what year and model is this lower unit interchangable with the Johnston? eg. 1975 80hp-115hp johnston.

Welcome to the iboats forum Tanart. That l/u has a hyrdraulic shift assist set-up and you really need the manual to work on it. It also takes a special type of l/u lube. If you have the manual and encounter problems, it's easier to discuss.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Any 1973 to 1977 20" V4 lower unit will interchange.<br /><br />Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I've been quoted around $AU 2100 which is roughly $A1100 for a complete reco on the l/u. At this stage its a bit out of my league. Will have to give the fishing a miss for a season and start saving.
