My motor will run good and then it acts like it looses power. Then it will catch and start running good again. The carbs have been reworked and new plugs put in it'

As Djohn's mentioned, give year or model number for better info return. My fisrt guess is your loosing a cylinder do to an intermittent ignition failure.

Clean the coil grounds and give it a try.

I have the 1991 pro series on the Tracker. A Johnson with the Tracker signage on it. Is the power loss and recovery sudden, like a coil cutting out and it, or more gradual? Love these V4's. Old and simple design, but runs great with a little attention to maintenance.

It will run good until you stop to fish and when you crank it back up you can not get it to plane out. You run it a little bit like that and all of a sudden it will take off. I thank you all for helping me with this problem.

Roundmann,

Do as the others suggested. Remove all the grounds around the coils, clean them and reattach. Also make sure the coil ends of the spark plug boots are tight.

Dropping a cylinder or two can be carburetion or electrical.

Look at all four spark plugs and compare how they look. This may give some insight as to whether this issue is fuel or spark.

Yup, djohns is on the track. With a fishing stop after running, a little time to heatsoak, it could be either electrical or carb problem. My first instinct is to guess carbs, based on your symptoms. To eliminate as much of the electical as possible, a good cleaning of all connections is in order, including ground connections to the engine block. You said the carbs had been worked on. Are you pretty confident that a good job was done on them?

Also check the power pack grounds. They are usually found at one of the power pack attachment screws. The ground will be the black wire coming from the back side of the power pack. Good Luck! :D

I rebuilt the carbs. I followed the manuel. I work on small motors. This was the first time to work on amotor this size. Ihave never cleaned all the electrical connections. I,ll check everything that yall have told me to check. If that don't work I'll put it in the shop. Thanks

One quick way to check for a lean cylinder is momentarily bump the key in to activate the primer circuit when the problem is occuring. If the motor picks up the cylinder good chance it's a carb problem.
