I have a 14' fiberglass hustler made by skip jack. It has a 50hp evinrude. I would say it weights around 1000lbs. I would like to know what would be top speed for this boat.
How much difference is there between boat speed and vechile speed.

Re: Question about boat speed

I would guess about 35 mph.

Small boat speeds are usually calibrated in miles, not knots, so there is no difference between car and boat speed for your purpose.

Re: Question about boat speed

Rob - In my family there is a difference. If I am doing 35mph in my boat I am happy. If my wife is doing 35 mph in a car she isn't doing it for long. Kids used to call her Mamma Lead Foot. She hits 35 commin out of our short driveway.

According to JB's formula, which was accurate for my boat, you should get around 39 MPH. A knot equals 1.15 MPH.

If this is correct I should have no problem pulling my 110lb wife on a tube or skies should I.

I wouldn't think so but, if you do, you can always change props.

c/6

Hooty

Say that I do have a problem, what size prop should I use. I think that the prop that is on my motor is the original. I do know that it is aluminium. I have no idea of the pitch.
