In December I encountered a problem while winterizing my 2001 200hp Eninrude. I was running the engine just out of neutral to speed up the flow of the fuel/stablizer mixture into the engine. After 15 min's of this, I decided to go ahead and fog the engine. Bad idea. The engine over reved and the EMM (internal computer board) killed the engine before I could jump in the boat and do it.

Evinrude tech says everything should be fine, just need to clear the error code from the EMM. Anyone ever seen this before?

Keeping my fingers there is no real problem. Evinrude dealer has it in line at the shop. Should know something definite in the next week or two.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks
Allen
Guitar Picker

Yup, they do that. The best way to minimize the run away (over rev) situation is to run the engine in a tank (or big barrel) of water, this puts some back pressure on the exhaust system and will minimize the chance for a run away.

Personally, I always spray the fogging oil into the engine from iside the boat and I tie a piece of string to the emergency stop lanyard and run it to the back of the boat. In the event of a run away, all I have to do is reach down and pull the string. I've had it happen a couple of times and the string trick works.

Let us know how things turn out.

-John
