Let me explain my situation, a few weeks ago I noticed that my boat was hesitating a little when I really got on it coming out of the hole. I just thought if I ignored the problem it would go away. Recently I have noticed that after I crank my motor, and let it idle while I park the truck, it seems to smoke a lot whenever I get ready to take off. The motor runs great after I get it going, but I am a bit concearned that I may be running into some problems in the future. This motor is a little cold natured and you have to choke it just right to get it to start. I use my boat a lot so its not sitting around. Please give me your advice!

Skraps,

Let us know what brand of engine it is, plus horsepower, model #' etc.

Off hand, I'd say you may have carburetor issues.

Do you still have the VRO hooked up? Might be it's dumping too much oil in the mix causing the smoking and loading up at low speeds. Just a start..

Skraps, your carbs should have a slow speed needle valve that is adjustable.Your slow speed passages may have developed some build-up and requires an adjustment. They are located on the starboard side of carb body.Run them in clockwise, one at a time, counting the turns ,until they seat. This will let you know how far open they are set at.Then back them out and remove, one at a time and insert a torch tip cleaner into orifice and insure that they are clear. If so ,post the amount of turns that each were set (open) at and we can go from there. When my 70 hp engine was purchased new in 95',it had a undeniable flat spot that led to stalling ocassionally when throttling from a stop.My needle valves were originally opened 1 3/4 turns. They are now set at 3 turns open and the engine operates flawlessly.

Skraps,Insure that the carb linkage roller is aligned exactly on center with the scribe line on the fiber throttle cam and just touching when controls are in neutral. There is a lock screw that retains the roller that can be lossened to adjust and then tightened.Bare in mind what Rick has suggested as the ( now not new)VRO pump on your engine is prone to oil weeping from the oil half of the unit to the fuel half when setting idle for a spell and causing an oil rich condition on start-up, until it finally clears after engine runs for a time.I had this very symptom.
