thanks for the help on the shifting,but i have another problem. how can i tell if the charging system is working.i started the moter and removed the positive cable and the motor died. does this mean the stater is not working and if so how con i fix it.

Hi Driller<br />That was a big NO-NO. These model use a battery powerd CD ignit. system. Never attempt to operate the motor without a fully charged battery in the system. In this case the ignit system runs off the batt. The alt. then recarges the batt. You sould have a manual to inform you to preform tests on this model.

Driller.... Removing the battery cable while a engine is running is an excellent way to destroy the rectifier. The rectifier is a device that converts AC voltage from the stator to DC voltage which is required to charge the battery.<br /><br />Removing that battery cable may also damage (or destroy) the expensive Battery Capacitance Discharge powerpack.
