I have 1980 25hp Johnson motor that runs great except for after running at slow speed for a while the motor begins to make a squeeling noise, it does not do this at higher speeds! Is this a worn water pump impellor? if so, what does changing this involve? other than that the motor runs extreemely well. Any help will be very appreciated.
Thank you
Tom G. :(

Hi, Tom.

Welcome to the board.

If you change speeds does the squealing change pitch?

Re: 1980 25hp johnson, squeeling noise

Hi,
I made a typo, its a 35 hp motor, and the squeeling goes away as soon as the RPM's go up, ALso I noticed that at Idle the pump is not pumping water throught the motor, I have purchesed the new inpellor and plan on installing it this weekend, I am also wondering what it involves, I am guessing just unbolt the lower half of the lower unit, and drop it down, is there anything I need to do with the shifting shaft??? or anything else?

Thanks for the fast reply.

Tom
