I use the motor once or twice a year in the sea on my Mirror Dingy, when I visit my parents in Cornwall. despite always running in fresh water after use it sometimes overheats (partial seizure) I am stripping it down at present.the water jacket around the bores is clear, how can I clean out the waterway from the block to the pump? do I have to remove the small core plug?
I will need some replacement gaskets and the rubber piece that divides the block water jacket, can I get these in the United Kigdom? I have an operators manual but not a Service Manual or spares book.
Any help greatfully receved.

Re: Evinrude 4HP overheats

I've always been fond of using compressed air and maybe a stiff piece of wire if I've got a stubborn clog. The exhaust housing portion is easy, as it's just a copper tube top to bottom. The gearcase is fairly straightforward, too. The powerhead has those little passages which is where the wire comes in handy....

Depending on how long your local dealer has been in business will likely determine whether or not you can find the parts. The rubber piece between the block halves is fairly easy to manufacture in a pinch. Gaskets you can cut yourself (save the old ones for patterns!). The head gasket should still be available and is the only one you'll need to purchase...
- Scott
