I have a late 80's evinrude outboard. I believe it has been overhauled once. It runs great. However , it sucks the fuel. I consume about 5 gallons in 1 hour. I think I should purchase some Exxon Stock. All I do is get the boat planed and thats my cruising speed. The boat is a Boston Whaler. Is this normal? What can I do to remedy this situation.

Thanks in Advance

What is the length of the boat? What rpm's are you turning when you are on plane?? What is the diameter and pitch of your prop??

Sounds normal to me.A general estimate of per hour fuel consumption on a two stroke outboard is 10% of horsepower per hour at wide open throttle. On your engine that would equate to around 9 gal per hour at 5500 RPM.

Boat is 17 feet.
RPM's are between 3000 - 3500
Sorry , no data on the prop.

There is no way I am running even close to wide open. All I do is get the boat planed
