A quick run run down guys/gals of what is going on. Thermostat internals have been taken out last week. Boat ran fine. Prior to that the motor would not operate above above mid-range (3000 - 5700). When I took the thermo's internals out it ran good for as long as I wanted. Just yesterday it started showing the same problems. There is a strong pee from the telltale. I am at a loss here. Ideas or fixes to what could be the problem would be of great help.

Thanks to all in advance right now.

~Brett

I have no idea when it was last seviced. As I have just acquired the boat last weekend. I do know that it has a strong pee from the telltale. That should indicate that the water pump is good right?

~Brett

you should replace the water pump every 1-2 seasons, regardless of whether the telltall 'pees' or not.

Not necessarily.Water pump impellers can operate intermittently or not at all at high speeds if worn or defective.Follow Jersey Jim's advice.

I agree with the others, service the water pump and while you have the lower unit off clamp a garden hose on the end of the water tube (the tube that sticks into the water pump) and remove the thermostat covers and flush the block with the garden hose. Then do it the other way with the garden hose stuffed in the thermostat hole and backflush it. You should get good flow either way. If theres any crud (sand, shell, roaches, leaves, former impeller blades, etc.) in there it might flush out.
