I toom the lower unit off the motor and now I've taken every nut out of the lower unit and removed the water pump, and I still can't get at the gears. There is a square plate that the drive shaft goes through that seems frozen. Also theres a piece of metal supporting the propshaft that seems like it should be removable, but doesn't budge. Can anyone tell me how to get at the gears and clutch dog, and also are there any specific techniques to removing these peices?

Tri..... The carrier assy in back of the propeller must be removed in order to get at the inner portion of the gearcase. It is too involved to try to explain every procedure that must be taken to remove/replace whatever is needed.

It is best that you obtain a service manual before you atempt to repair that unit as one mistake would be quite expensive.
