1970 Evinrude 60...no power in gear

I hope someone can help me out here. I have a '70 Evinrude 60 HP that started hard. After it did start, it would rev up and it idled smoothly. However, when I put it into forward, it barely went any faster than idle speed and there was NO power. When I attempted to give it full throttle, it died abruptly. I changed plugs and now it won't even start

Hi, Wally.<br /><br />Go to www.outboardrepairs.com and look up wont start and power loss.<br /><br />She'll be purring away again soon.

i have a 74 70hp.<br />same thing.<br />cleaned carbs and works excellent ever since,

I just took off the carb's on my '72 65HP Evinrude because it was doing the same thing as you describe. Went through them and found out that on two of the three carbs the needles were stuck shut. Cleaned them up and took it back out yesterday....runs like a stripped ape. hehe
