Please help! What year is my 200HP Evinrude?

When I purchased this boat, the seller told me it was a '88 outboard. I couldn't find anyway to reference his claim, so I took his word on it. A friend has told me that there is no way this outboard can be the year I was told. How can I find out the year?<br /><br />I could not find the tag on the powerhead, but the tag on the bracket holding it to the hull has a scuffed up model number. The serial number is clear.<br /><br />Model #: 200 49A<br />Serial #: J0001254<br /><br />Any help he would greatly be appriciated.<br /><br />Thanks!<br /><br />Dan

Thank you for your help and your quick reply.<br /><br />It looks as though the seller intentionally scratched off the one number that would correctly identify the year.<br /><br />At least I know it is a '70s outboard.<br /><br />Thanks again!

Your Evinrude/Johnson dealer can tell you the year from the serial number. I went through the same thing, except someone took the ID tag OFF my motor <br /><br />Any way, they got the serial number off the block, a got me the year and model number. Although I lucked out, mine was a year NEWER than told.
