What kind of book would I need to wire a tilt and trim?

I need to know how to wire up a tilt and trim to my 1982 Johnson outboard motor Model # J70ELCND Serial # J 5679548.<br />What is a good book to use?

Hi Oldboater.....the generic manuals should give you the info you need. They usually have wiring diagrams in the back. Check iboats store for the generic manuals.

Hi, here's a link to a generic T&T wiring pictorial for a 3 wire motor. Scroll down a bit, <br />as noted it's a bare bones diagram. The relays shown would be SPST, thats single pole, single throw type with 30-40 amp rated contacts and a 12 volt rated coil. The fat wires connect to the relay switching contacts, the small wires connect to the relay coil. A good source and what I use is relays from a car stereo shop, they use then for alarms. A 2 wire motor needs different relays wired differently since you have to reverse the polarity. Good luck. :) <br /><br /> http://www.brokeboats.com/trim.html
