The motor is new to me. Compression 125 on all 4 cyl. The carbs were just rebuilt. The fuel system seems to be working fine. I am running OMC oil and 92 octane fuel. The engine will start with choke and seems to surge and slows to idle and dies. The plugs(L76V) are wet when removed. This problem is driving me nuts. I think it might be low speed jet, anti-reverse spring, or not all cylinders firing properly. any help would be great, thanks.

Compression sounds good. With the s/plugs out, the spark should jump a 1/4" gap with a strong blue lightening like flame on all cylinders.

If the spark is okay, that would indicate that either something was overlooked within the carburetors, the carbs are not in sync, or a air/fuel leak exists in the fuel supply line somewhere.

Synchronization.....

Loosen the set screw that will allow you to back the carb roller away from the cam that it rides upon.

Adjust the linkages between the carburetors so that the throttle butterflies open and close at the same time. Make sure that at a idle setting, both butterflies are absolutely closed.

Now, adjust the roller so that the throttle butterflies just start to open when the scribe mark on the cam is dead centered with the carb roller. That's it.

Got it fired up today. Turns out to be the float level. I swapped out the carbs with my donor 115 and the beast fired up. I compared both sets of carbs and found that the float levels were slightly different. :p

Found the problem. The float level was slightly off, runs fine now. :)
