Boat ran great, then all of the sudden it started running out of fuel. If I keep pumping up the fuel ball it will stay running. I tried replace the pump diaphram and it did help a LITTLE, before it would only stay running for 1 minute now it will run for 2 allmost 3 minutes without pumping.I also put an in line filter and replaced the stock in line element.
I usualy like to try and fix things myself but this new motor is Star Trek to me. I hope someone can help me before I give up and bring it to the shop.

Does it do this at both idle and fast speeds?

Yes it does this throughout all ranges, the more fuel I use the quicker it dies. I can idle in gear for close to 3 minutes and it will run out of fuel unless I pump up the fuel ball. Or I can start to get on plane and it uses the fuel up fast, you realy can't pump the fuel ball while I'm getting on it like that though.

I've tried it with the cap off the fuel tank, which should give it plenty of venting I think.

Thanks guys, I'll check back in the AM .

Do you have VRO? If your running the engine on the primer bulb, only (because the fuel pump isn't working)keep in mind that your not pumping oil. I just went through this on a 90 HP evenrude. The one year old VRO pump quit working(upon dissassembly of the pump I found that the S.S. piston that meters the oil was stuck in the housing, when stuck it won't allow the fuel diaphram movement). I bought another new VRO pump at Mastertech, $ 235.00 complete), best price I could find. My engine was overheating while running on the bulb (no oil). Now running good w/new pump. If your mechanically handy, its less than a 30 minute job. I also have a new 175 johnson, the VRO scares me, I think it's over priced crap & partial cause of the Evenrude- Johnson demise.
