Sure aint having the fun summer I had last year, just got the boat running last weekend. Now, after flushing it in the barrel, I look down by the prop and theres this oily substance leaking down the aft section of the skeg. I changed the gear lube last night and there was just a tad (maybe a couple of drops of waters worth) of milky color on the surface of my drain bucket, think I remember seeing this last time, and hearing something about condensation, ect. Other that that, the Quicksilver gear lube looked ok. Took the prop off, and there was a little black oily substance in there. I did a search yesterday and found a post from Oshi back in Febuary in which Outboard Jim replied:

If its dark black, its probably coming from the exaust and nothing to worry about

Can anyone elaborate on this statement? This black stuff was hard to wipe off, and was kind of greasy. I tried dipping a finger in each substance and seeing if the dark black stuff smelled like the gear lube. It didnt, but Im no expert.

Also, carbs have recently been rebuilt, VRO has been disconnected, and used prop (dont look so hot) was put on by mechanic.

Could there be a rich or lean condition doing this? Is an out of balance prop damaging the seal?

I looked in Clymers last night, still have OEM manual to read, but they show how to pull everything apart, can just the prop seals be replaced? Looks like I need another specialty puller, any tips for my next possible project? Thanks for looking
