I need a little help with my Evinrude fisherman. The serial number is 6102 G J 10639 and I have
no idea what year it is. In any case, it worked fine the first year I had it. Did not run the fuel out
of it, like a fool and did not run it at all last year. Now this year, I have replaced the gas and oil
with a 50:1 mixture. I took the fuel pump apart and cleaned it. When I pump up the gas, fuel
flows out the front of the carburetor. I did get it started but it ran really rough until I put my
finger over the hole that the fuel was coming out of. Then, it went in high gear for about 15
seconds and died. I did get it started several more times, but it would only run a few seconds.
I don't know a lot about these engines, or, how to get to the carburetor screws on the bottom.
Any suggestions? I would order a manual if I knew the year.

Model #6102
Year: 1971
HP: 6
WOT RPMS: 4500
Displacement: 8.84 cu.in. = 144.8 ccm
Cylinders: 2
Weight: 51 lbs. = 23.1 Kg
From the Olde OMC Site.

If your carburator is overflowing, that points to a problem with the needle or float in the carburator bowl. Those are parts of a "toilet tank valve" affair inside the bottom of the carburator which is supposed to stop the flow of gas when the carburator bowl is filled. If it overflows, the engine runs very rich and floods. Most likely the old cork float is saturated with gas and sunk, or the float is jammed against the side of the carburator. If it's jammed, you can try tapping the side of the bowl with a screwdriver handle to see if this frees it up.
If you do anything more, your going to need a manual. They're incredibly useful, and available here at Iboats. Alternatively, your local library may carry one. You'll need to completely remove the carburator in order to service it properly. It's held on to the engine by two nuts at the back of the carburator.
Good luck!

Re: 6hp fisherman fuel problems

Thank you Paul Moir. Will go to the library today! So nice to know what year model it is.
I appreciate the help, it's a fine little motor and just right for flyfishing on the lakes. :)
