MJV.... Model #50931 is a 1962 75hp Evinrude, not a 1963. Does that engine have Magneto or Automotive type ignition?

1962, thanks, I asumed because the boat was a 1963. It's a startflite IV Selectric shift, with a magneto. the distribiter turns as you throttal up.

J8C Champion plugs are too hot and will cause piston damage. Use either J4C or J6C.

Magneto timing... At the rear of the flywheel, slightly to port, you'll see a raised timing mark on the top water jacket cover. Line up the timing mark on the flywheel with that mark. Now, line up the timing mark on the magneto pulley with the center of the safety switch plunger. Keep those marks lined up, install and tighten the belt.

MJV.... The spark plug wires on a magneto ignition device are attached to the bottom (4 plug wires).

The spark plug wires on a automotive ignition device are attached to the top sides of the distributor (4 plug wires, 1 coil wire). This incorporates a seperate coil.

Which type do you have?

I have the magneto on top, with an em-pull cord slot on top. standing outside the boat, behind the motter.the 4 cyc's point two to you'r left, & two to you'r right the two carbs are at 12-O'clock, the starter is at 1-o'clock, and the distributor, is at 6-O'clock. The timing belt goes around a groved pully below the magneto, and one below the distributor. I have a coil, to top side of the distributor, then the 4 plug wires come out from diffent side of the top side of the distributor. I know where both marks on the pullys are. but I can't find the others. nothing els comes up by the magneto. I asked for J8C, but they gave me H10C plugs. I'll have to exchange them tomarow for some J4C's mike

You DO NOT have a magneto. You have automotive type ignition.

Disregard the instructions about lining the timing mark up with the safety switch. Do the following.

Automotive type ignition timing... At the rear of the flywheel, slightly to port, you'll see a raised timing mark on the top water jacket cover. Line up the timing mark on the flywheel with that mark.

Now, line up the timing mark on the distributor pulley with the scribed mark on the distributor housing. Keep those marks lined up, install and tighten the belt.

Ok new pluges are in J4C'S. found the timming mark, on the water jacket cover. And lined up the flyweel with it. On the distributer bodey there are two markes. one at 11-O'colck the other is at 1-O'colck, just above the littel arm that stops the distributer from turning. and another one one the bracit that holds the distributer in place, this one lines up with the 11-O'colck one when, the throttel is in start. I lined up the distributer up with this one. she will not start. theres fire in the wires. (Timming lite) But not consistent. Coil?? or am I setting the distributer in the wrong spot?? MJV
