How to remove the shift rod ?

Johnson 2000 with defect impeller.<br />I must separate the lower from the upper unit.<br />I can't do it because I can't loosen the shift rod.<br />Someone told me one must remove somthing near the carburettor.<br />Who can describe the steps to be taken ?

If you have the same manual I do, it tells you squat. Look on page 3 neer the bottom Aug 15 2003 0915 (Subj Lower Unit Removal problems) see if this helps.

dont know what motor you have, but its easier to get to if you remove the lower cowling.<br /><br />it should be rite below the carbs & be able to get to it from the port side <left>.

It all depends on the model motor. Some are easier with the cowling off, some dont require the cowling to come off and on some the lower cowling wont come off.<br /><br />We'll have to wait until he lets us know what motor he has.

Sorry, I forgot to say, it's a 30 HP with manual starter
