Hi,
I have a 1978 Johnson 35, 20" shaft. The motor starts and runs very well initially, but after it is warm, has trouble starting and running after being shut off. I know that the choke is operating fine, and I recently replaced the plugs. I have ordered a repair manual, but for now I apologize for my ignorance. My feeling is that the problem is electrical, do you agree? Are there points that may need to be replaced? What else should I look for? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds heat related...check for spark or pull the plugs when the problem arises and check for a wet plug.

TMD

I understand that it may be heat related, but why would the problem happen only after the motor is turned off? If we continue to run, it has no problem. Also, what would a wet plug mean? Could the coil be the problem? Could the problem be fuel pump related? Thanks again for your help.
