Need 2nd opinion 1983 Rude 15 HP Weak Discharge on h20 hold

I need a second opinion. Moter is 1983 15 HP Evidrude on a sailboat.<br /><br />Yesterday when I went out the discharge water outlet became weak. The impeller was put in 2 years ago, this past winter new thermostat and water tube grommets. It has worked fine up to now.<br /><br />I pulled the lower unit and ran water thru the water tube through the head, and water came through. Looked at the water pump, impeller looked ok.<br /><br />Being paranoid about keeping the motor cooling, needless to say I am grounded this weekend. Marina near me with parts is closed!!!<br /><br />I am ready to put a new impeller in, but after 2 years seems too soon. Motor is on a sailboat, got about 30 hours last year and about 50 or so hours this year to date.<br /><br />Any ideas here?<br /><br />Thanks

Before you go tearing into the impeller, and its wise to replace them now and then... Where the hose from the block to the tell tale go... (under the hood) Take a pair of neeed nose pliers while r unning in the water or in a test bucket and remove the hose from the tell tale. I have seen alot of motors that dribble water because there is sand or silt or even paint gets stuck in that small opening, run a piece of wire through the hole of the tell tale. let the hose free pump water for 1 or 2 min, if its not pumpin water through the hose at a godo stream replace it. if it is pumping good then you have dirt.<br /><br />Allan

Hi, Sailormann.<br /><br />The above is good advice.<br /><br />Rubber impellers should be replaced at least once in 2 years, regardless of hours of use.<br /><br />You sound like a details man. Details men replace impellers annually.<br /><br />Good luck, and

Thanks for the help. I did check the intake area and it was clean, and I did check the discharge hose for any blockage.<br /><br />Looks like it is impeller time!! Thanks again.
