i have an aluminum 14 1/2 x 19 on my 1998 johnson 150hp oceanrunner. it spun at 4600. i borrowed a 15 x 17, which got me just under 5200.

so i think i found the prop size i like. can anyone recommend both an aluminum and ss model for my set-up? seems there are quite a few out there. let's assume money is not an issue. i'd really like to max my performance.

thanks-

Good. Now lets get your set up done. Tell us a little more about your boat. Do you have a jackplate? Is the 17 aluminum? What brand are the props you tried? Note your water pressure.

The 17 certianly got you closer but youre still almost 1000 rpm short. You dont want to lug that motor.

Start by rasiing the motor (increase the X dimension).

Good luck!

dhadley, thanks for the reply. you are always mentioning the x dimension. did you read about that in a boat mag article long ago? never heard anyone else mention it.

i'll disagree with being 1000 short. per the manual, my top should be 5000-5500. i'll stick with the 5200 (yesterday's run).

no idea what brand the two props are. both came standard on '98 johnson 150's. aluminum.

back to original question. any suggestions on brands for this set-up? i'd like to just pull it out of the box and slide it on, i.e. not mess with a conversion kit. thanks-

Re: recommend prop

I have Had 3 boats in the last 5 years. one was a 1994 20 wellcraft c.c. offshore ,the other was a 1998 17' sprint fiberglass bass boat and the one i have now is a 2000 promaster 19 center console. I have been very picky with props and have tried many from the viper s.s. omc prop to the omc raker s.s prop. and the rapture, the Beast i tell you will get for your money is the same one i finally ended up with was the Ballistic it has thinner blades then most other s.s. props but it cost alot less. and performs 25% better. my promaster was running 43 with the raker and viper and the same pitch and size the ballistic gets it to the top end at 50.3 on a gps talk about a improvement. anyway look on ebay you can get one for about 175.00 i just bought mine 2 weeks ago on ebay and it is the same size you need
an Attwood Ballistic 3-blade stainless steel prop (part #345032).The diameter is 14-3/4" X 17" pitch and is for OMC,Johnson,Evinrude engines i assure you you will not be dissappointed with this one my friend !!!!

Re: recommend prop

I am looking for a new prop also.
I think I am going to buy the Turbo 2+2 four blade. It is a 14.5" dia. x 18" pitch.

My engine is a 95' 200 Ocean Runner, and will pull the 18" pitch.

Re: recommend prop

matttt25,Consider the OMC sstII prop on your Oceanrunner.I've tried Michigans and others over the years and found OMC to be the best all round choice for John/Rude engines.Once you have decided on a selection, only a water test will confirm final rpm results.Engines that are propped to turn in the upper end of the recommended rpm range will exhibit better all round performance.I was amazed at what raising my engine just one hole higher did for the WOT rpm and handling.Good luck on yours.BTW those OMC props list for around $400 skins.
