I just bought a "older " boat with a 80hp johnson super seahorse motor (O/B) and need help finding the yr of this motor.Model #V4SL-18C Serial # J2654749 .Motor is electric start.I have looked up other sites (listed in forum) and can't find the exact match. It seems like it could be a 1966 but like I said I can't find an exact match with the numbers.

What is the difference between a sea-horse and a super sea-horse.I have yet to find any info on a super sea-horse this big.

Is this a 2 stroke engine ?
Thanks for any help! V4S-18 is a 1966 model.I think the L stands for long shaft. It is a 2 stroke engine.

Thx for the reply! Any idea what the difference is between a "sea-horse" and a "super sea-horse" is? And what the "C" after the 18 stands for, any idea ? Thanks again , Russ

Re: 80hp super seahorse year ?

Could be electramatic instead of manual shift. Both were offered on the 80hp that year. If it uses push buttons to shift it's the former.
If it's electramatic, use only OMC Premium Blend Gearcase Lube (Type C) in the lower unit.
