Full power with 1 low cyl,is it possible

Some of you have probably seen my posts on my 1984 115rude that lost its idle one day.I was about to rebuild the carbs after posting the problem.Just before I pulled the boat I did a compression check and got bad news,3 cyl at 115 and 1 at 20-30.I quickly assumed the no idle was because of this.Since most mechanics did not even want to look at it and prepared me for a 2000 bill if I wanted it rebuilt,one mechanic suggested to raise the idle until it keeps running and use it until it craps out.In a last effort I unloaded a can of seafoam into that cylinder,let it sit,and started it to see if any improvement.None that i could see.I still have to pull the head to look inside but I unloaded 1/2 a can of pt buster into the same cyl and it still seemed the same,I took it for a ride and it has full power.I am baffled because it had full power when i was about to rebuild the carbs and discovered the low comp. in 1 cyl.Is it possible to run at what feels like full power with 1 low cyl?????????????Sorry for being lengthy Charlie

why do you think you are getting full power? are you checking the tach? I doubt you are with a cylinder that low.

Would you run the compression on that cylinder while the motor is still warm from a run, and let us know what you find?

Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing this weekend.The boat runs just as fast as the day I got it 3 years ago which was when I last checked the compression where all 4 cylinders were exactly the same.The only reason i did a compression test was to make sure I was rebuilding the carbs for the stall at idle problem.I was stunned when I saw the compression reading,it ran too well to have low compression except for the stalling at idle problem.Thanks for the suggeation,i will keep you posted. No time this weekend for the comp check,just waned to keep at the top so i dont forget to report.Charlie
