Hello,
still having trouble with my tilt and trim. I tried connecting the battery directly to the trim-motor but nothing happened...

So, if I want to replace the motor or repair it, I have to remove it. It seems to as if it is only three screws on each side. Can this be correct or is there any hidden stuff I have to remove first? Is there anything else I should think about before trying to remove all that stuff?

I have a 110 evinrude, -89.

Asok.... Those three (3) screws are all that's retaining the electric motor. However, you'll be required to remove the PTT unit from the engine in order to access that one hidden screw.

Re: trim/tilt removal

My question was a bit unclear, I'm sorry. What I meant was:

I noticed that I had to remove the hole powertrim / tiltunit to be able to access the electric motor. My question was, are there more than the three screws on each side of the transom bracket that holds the ptt unit, and are there anything I should consider before trying to remove the ptt unit?

Thanks for the quick answer Joe...

Re: trim/tilt removal

just raise the motor, engage tilt support, disconnect the wires, remove spring clip from tilt rod pin, tap out pin, manually compress tilt rod
(or use motor before disconnecting wires, just
be careful)
unbolt & remove.

Re: trim/tilt removal

Hi,
got stuck trying to remove tilt rod pin. It seems to be stuck. I removed the clips but I didn't manage to move it at all, using a hammer. Should I use more force or is there something I'm missing? I tried from both directions.

asok,

Corrosion has got you bound up. Use a good penetrant to soak those pins before attempting again.

Re: trim/tilt removal

Hi,
after a lot of time and force I managed to remove the hole powertrim/tilt unit.

I'm a bit unsure of which three screws that holds the electric motor. There are two options, first three smaller screws that holds the top part of the motor. Then there are three screws a bit further down(1 cm or something). The problem is that one of the smaller screws is stuck, and I probably have to remove it using a drill... I tried removing the lower three screws, with som problems, but I couldn't remove the motor.

Can someone clear this out for me?

thanks

Re: trim/tilt removal

its the lower 3 screws, the upper are the motor housing screws/bolts.
i have my old t/t unit from my 120/140 that has one of the screws broke.
im going to have to remove it so i can sell the unit.
i was thinking of using a butane pencil torch to just heat the screw stud and cool with
pb blaster, hoping to draw it into the threads.
then i was going to try a reverse drill bit, in hopes it would back it out while drilling.
-
good luck with yours
