Hi,

on the water this weekend and noticed an engine noise. Not too sure if I have heard it before as I take my boat out about once every 2 months weeks and one is inclined to forget the characterictic sound of ones own engine.

The noise is a mechanical type buzz that can be best described as "a light fast noisy tappet" as found in a car.

The noise starts at +- 3500 rpm and dissappears at +- 4800rpm. WOT for me is 5000rpm with four medium to large sized adults. This means I have to be at full throttle to get rid of the noise.

Cheers
Andrew

Check your hood latches as you may be encountering a harmonic viberation type noise due to a slightly loose latch.

Hi Joe,

thanks, the harmonic "sympathy" vibration sound like it clould be it as at a much lower rpm there is also a hint of the noise.

Whilst on the water I did not want to remove the hood whilst the engine was running, dangerous with that flywheel ripping around and unsteady footing. Will set it up with the muffs.

Cheers
Andrew

hello
dont attempt it on the muffs. next time your cruising and the noise is noising just go back and place your hands on the latches.
if the noise quits you found it.make sure the water is calm though and a trusted driver is at the helm :) .the front decal plate on my 85 120 rattles and makes a buzzing noise about 3500 , if I was not so lazy I would remove it or Glue it but its done it for 10 years now so I dont even hear it.
good luck and keep posting
